Borealis Mining Company Limited executed its first production blast at the Borealis Gold Mine near Hawthorne, Nevada, on January 28, 2026, fragmenting approximately 40,000 short tons of material. This operational milestone marks the company’s transition toward regular production activities following a comprehensive mine restart initiative.
The company, headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, and trading on multiple exchanges under the symbols TSXV: BOGO, OTC Pink: BORMF, and FSE: L4B0, initiated this blast within the permitted East Ridge open pit sector. The event represents the first major blast since the company commenced its restart program, signifying operational readiness after completing site preparation, contractor mobilization, and equipment commissioning. Andreas Steckenborn, Chief Operating Officer of Borealis Mining, described the blast as a defining achievement that reflects successful execution of the restart strategy and acknowledges the efforts of the site team and contracted partners. The company plans to advance methodically toward consistent, sustained mining operations while prioritizing safety protocols.
Following the blast, fragmented ore and waste material will be processed according to the company’s mining sequence. Excavation and hauling operations will transport the material to the heap leach pad facility, where initial stacking activities are expected to begin. Subsequently, leaching operations and solution processing will occur through the existing on-site Absorption, Desorption, and Recovery (ADR) facility. Borealis Mining is implementing the restart in phases, emphasizing safety, operational discipline, and measured execution as production capacity grows.
The Borealis Gold Mine is equipped with substantial pre-existing infrastructure, which significantly reduces restart risks and capital requirements compared to developing a new mining operation. The property features multiple permitted open pits, a permitted heap leach pad, and an operational ADR plant capable of producing doré bars. This existing infrastructure supports the company’s conventional open-pit, heap-leach operational model for gold production.
Located within Nevada’s established mining jurisdiction, the mine benefits from developed infrastructure, access to a skilled labor force, and proximity to experienced mining service providers. Borealis Mining views the successful completion of the first production blast as validation of its restart strategy and reinforcement of its emerging position as a gold producer in Nevada.
The Borealis Gold Mine property spans approximately 16,300 acres, comprising 815 unpatented mining claims and one unpatented mill site claim. Historically, the site has produced over 600,000 ounces of gold through open-pit heap leach operations. Despite this history, the property remains largely underexplored, with no drilling activity since 2011 apart from modest exploration efforts by Borealis Mining in 2024 and 2025. The property shows potential for high-grade expansion, supported by robust historical drilling results, and contains multiple untested regional exploration targets.
Currently, the Borealis Gold Mine holds existing federal and state permits authorizing mining and processing operations. However, the company acknowledges that potential permit modifications may be necessary for expanded production activities. The timeline for approval of any such modifications is subject to regulatory review processes, and Borealis Mining cannot guarantee the timing or success of these future applications.
Borealis Mining’s primary focus is on the Borealis Gold Mine in Nevada and the advancement of the Sandman project, also located in Nevada. The Sandman project was acquired through the acquisition of Gold Bull Resources Inc. and represents an advanced exploration initiative. It includes a completed 2021 NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate and a 2023 Preliminary Economic Assessment that indicated favorable economics, particularly in light of commodity price increases since the assessment’s publication.
The company remains committed to safe operations, disciplined execution, and long-term value creation. As it advances the Borealis Gold Mine toward sustained production, Borealis Mining will continue to evaluate regional exploration opportunities and potential operational synergies within its broader Nevada asset portfolio.
